Waste Management
The purpose of our waste recycling centre is to effect recovery of all reusable materials from the commercial, industrial and domestic waste streams. Through this process we strive to save as much recyclable waste as possible from being sent to landfill, which therefore provides a more cost effective and environmentally friendly solution to all waste disposal requirements.
From our skip hire and waste management operations, all collected waste is delivered to our Granish Recycling Centre where the recycling process takes place within the sorting building. Wastes such as timber, metal, paper, cardboard, clothing and textiles, furniture, rubble, concrete, brickwork, stone and soil, electrical appliances and cable, polythene and plastics are all recovered and put through our processing procedure.
Waste such as soil, brickwork, rubble, green waste, concrete and stone are put through a screening and crushing process and from this they become available for purchase, usually at discounted rates due to the recycling process which allows exemption of Government Aggregate Levy. (currently £1.95 per tonne)
Cardboard, paper and polythene are processed into 1 tonne bulk bales and then loaded at site for delivery to the various industry markets. On occasion this waste is collected/delivered to the end source in loose form, therefore enabling our customer to categorise their requirements before final usage.
Timber and wood based waste is broken down and chipped onsite with the use of appropriate machinery, then loaded onto bulker lorries for delivery to the board and pulp mills around Scotland. This product is used in the production of MDF, Sterling Board and animal bedding. Shredded wood can also be used in the biomass industry for the provision of heat to sustain the running of biomass heating systems providing all the correct licences and certificates are in place.
All scrap metal waste from iron, tin aluminium, copper, brass, cast iron, zinc and lead are reclaimed from the incoming waste and these metals are segregated, bulked and then put to the various metal merchants around Scotland.
We currently show a tonnage figure of 95.33% of all received waste being recycled. Although being delighted with this figure, we as a company shall endeavour to provide our customers with a cost effective and environmentally friendly solution to the ever increasing waste disposal requirements.
